I'm José, a Brazilian motion designer based in Italy.
Since 2012 I've been animating for pretty much any screen: TVs, phones, billboards, those giant ones at events. Most of the time I show up when it's time to animate, but I'm just as happy taking a video from the first idea all the way to delivery.
Before I move anything, I need to know what the piece has to say and who's going to watch it. Once I get that, I know if it's time to play or time to get straight to the point.
I'm a generalist, and I'm happiest with a lot to animate and something I haven't figured out yet. I can't pull a single keyframe without good music and a good coffee. A rap beat, some Brazilian sertanejo, whatever fits the mood. That's probably where the Brazilian energy comes from.
And the zé? In Brazil every José ends up as Zé, and every place has a Zé da Padaria (the bakery guy), a Bar do Zé around the corner, and I ended up known as Zé do Motion.
Where I've been
- 7D Produção
- Seven years of regional TV ads, with a different client and a new deadline every day. Good school for getting up to speed fast.
- Bradesco Seguros
- Then the opposite: one brand, every single day. Living with it up close, I got to know a brand from the inside, down to the timing of each animation.
- Watermelon
- Almost three years as senior motion designer in Italy, on local and international projects, with a team that let me try all kinds of things.
- Now
- Independent again, working remotely for people who want to tell good stories.
Some friends I made along the way:
Cappuccino, Foco Filmes, Ginga, Jumbla, Mediacross.
